Post Lower Back Surgeries instructions:
Sleeping Position:
The patient can sleep on their back or sides and they can roll from side to side (Log roll)

You should use a pillow under your knees when sleeping on your back to keep your spine relaxed.

You should use a pillow in between your knees when sleeping on your side to keep your spine relaxed.

You have to move all your body as a unit while rolling (Log roll)
Movement
1. To move in or out of bed, bend your knees and roll as a unit to side (Neck, shoulders, back, and legs together) and avoid excessive movement of the neck.
2. Put your legs down, and use your hand to push yourself up

Sitting
Once you begin sitting use a straight back chair and each day increase the time of sitting gradually from 5 min continuously to 10 to 15

Move out of bed and start walking as soon as possible after consulting a doctor to avoid complications even with a blood drainage device.

Going up and down stairs is permitted with using the hand rail and as shown in the video
Sexual activity may be resumed as tolerated (Choose a painless position)
Swimming and strengthening exercises can be started after 6 weeks from the surgery (complete healing of the wound.


Avoid
1. Avoid the following movements:

Bending

Twisting

Squating

Sitting on a short chair

Straight leg raising
2. Avoid lifting, pushing, or pulling weights more than 5 k.gm for 3 weeks after operation and try to distribute the weight between two hands



3. Avoid wearing high heels

4. Avoid driving for 2 - 4 weeks after the operation (According to the type of surgery)
5. Avoid constipation by Increasing your intake of fibers and fluids.
6. Avoid sitting or standing for more than 50 minutes.
7. Avoid rokou and sujood during prayer - pray seated on a chair.
8. Do not smoke after surgery since it decreases the rate of skin and bone healing.
