Post Neck Surgery instructions:
Sleeping Position:
1. The patient can sleep on their back or sides and they can roll from side to side (Log roll)

You should use a pillow under your knees to keep your spine relaxed.

2. Use the appropriate pillow height to prevent bending of the neck and put it under the shoulder and neck

1. To move in or out of bed, bend your knees and roll as a unit to side (Neck, shoulders, back, and legs together) and avoid excessive movement of the neck.
Put your legs down, and use your hand to push yourself up

2. Move out of bed and start walking as soon as possible after consulting a doctor to avoid Complications even with a blood drainage device

3. Sexual activity may be resumed as tolerated (Choose a painless position)
4. Swimming and strengthening exercises can be started after 6 weeks from the surgery (complete healing of the wound.
To Avoid:
1. Avoid sitting without neck support for more than 15 minutes
2. Avoid excessive flexion or extension of the neck


3. Avoid lifting, pushing, or pulling weights more than 5 k.gm for 3 weeks after operation and try to distribute the weight between two hands



4. Avoid driving for 2 - 4 weeks after the operation (According to the type of surgery)
5. Avoid constipation by Increasing your intake of fibers and fluids.
6. Avoid sitting or standing for more than 50 minutes.
7. Do not smoke after surgery since it decreases the rate of skin and bone healing.
8. Avoid bending the neck and keep it straight.
